Good Electric San Antonio – Electrical Issues
At our electric company, we encourage customers to understand their electrical system and have the ability to communicate what the issues are. When a problem arises, the first step, if possible is to observe the problem. Some issues only happen once and are gone. Some electrical systems thought to be dead are actually working. This can make diagnosing the problem difficult. What came first, the chicken or the egg?
Ask yourself relevant questions. Often the problem is associated with another event. This type of information will tell you or your local electrician if there are layers of complications that may have added to the problem. This will help determine what can be done to get to the cause.More here: San Antonio Residential Electricians
The basic electrical symptoms are:
Electric is not working: This is the most common electrical issue. And when this is the symptom, it is important to recognize it as such. The issue is not suddenly: the breaker doesn’t work, or the fixture is bad, or the switch doesn’t work. Those may be possible causes, and therefore replacing those components may fix the problem. But if you are going to effectively repair the problem, you need to have the basic symptom in mind. Namely, some things are not working. Prior to replacing gadgets test out the various possibilities. Electric is working intermittently: Things are working now; some electrical systems have gone out and later come back on their own, or else they will blink or flicker. The failure is intermittent. If there is blinking, it would be quick and might or might not be related to heavy appliances turning on or off. Any flickering would be irregular and might go on for quite a while.
Or, the electrical system dims down or brightens up for a time, and sometimes in response to turning another electrical system on or off. The brightness or dimness may continue for minutes. Then it might fluctuate without warning.
Electrical won’t turn off: This is a little different from some things that don’t work (1 above), which refers to lights, outlets, or appliances not working. This category could mean a control device (switch) is not doing its job, but there could be another cause.
Electrical Shocked Someone: This is not uncommon, and very dangerous. You need to fix the problem as soon as possible.
Ask yourself…
Which lights in the home flicker, and which don’t?
Are there outlets that are dead besides the ones you use and miss the most?
Is the problem new or was it caused by another event?
We suggest you write these facts down. The extent of the problem, along with the category of its symptoms, will help you rule out certain issues. Writing down what you have done and the results you observed may be helpful to our technicians if you are unable to diagnose the problem yourself.
Test one thing at a time, don’t make sweeping changes. Reducing the issue down to the least common denominator will help you rule out significant issues.
Above all, being careful, patient, and confident are important. Understand your limitations.
When you have found the nature and location of the cause, determine if this is something you can handle yourself. This may be as simple as resetting or replacing an electrical component.
